Consortium are representing a large manufacturing company in Hull who are looking to appoint an experienced Category Buyer.
 
Key Responsibilities:

As Category Buyer, your duties will include:
  • Reduce costs year-on-year based on set performance metrics.
  • Achieve the best possible total acquisition cost.
  • Develop and implement overarching commodity strategies.
  • Collaborate with existing and new suppliers on key strategic projects.
  • Find and approve new suppliers.
  • Develop new products by working closely with quality assurance and assisting with initial sample inspections.
  • Partner with suppliers to implement lean manufacturing principles.
  • Establish commercial and service agreements with current and new suppliers.
  • Manage and develop supplier relationships.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to improve the supply chain.
  • Hold regular supply chain review meetings with internal and external parties.
  • Assess supplier and commodity risks and create contingency plans.
  • Help resolve supply chain problems.
  • Maintain accurate pricing information in the company system.
Desired Skills and Experience for the Category Buyer:
  • Experience in procurement (minimum 3 years).
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to reduce costs 
  • Experience leading strategic projects that resulted in significant savings.
  • Ability to conduct effective supplier audits and reviews.
  • Understanding of financial accounting principles.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management abilities.
  • Commitment to teamwork.
  • Proficiency in IT and MRP systems.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to drive process improvement, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.

The role is paying up to £40,000 for the right candidate and offers generous holiday entitlement and other benefits.
