As a Quantity Surveyor, you will take commercial control of key projects, ensuring that they are delivered efficiently and within contractual terms. You’ll be responsible for budgeting, cost management, and reporting, all while working closely with project teams to maximise value.
The Quantity Surveyor role:
- Reviewing tender documents to identify requirements and potential risks.
- Developing detailed schedules of works or Bills of Quantities.
- Conducting site visits, reviewing findings with the Contracts Manager, and reflecting this in tender pricing.
- Managing procurement of sub-contract packages, labour-only packages, and suppliers.
- Preparing labour, plant, and material budgets.
- Issuing early warnings and managing compensation events under NEC contracts.
- Producing forecast cost reports, comparing actual against planned costs.
- Preparing and submitting monthly valuations and invoices, including reviewing sub-contractor accounts and on-site measures.
- Managing contract variations and ensuring accurate revenue recovery through adequate record-keeping.
- Finalising accounts with sub-contractors and preparing sub-contract documents.
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with NEC contracts in the civil engineering sector.
- Proven experience issuing early warnings, handling compensation events, and completing monthly valuations.
- Proficient in reviewing subcontractor accounts and overseeing site costs and measures.
- Excellent communication skills and strong commercial acumen.
- Competent in MS Office.
- A valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
